From the award-winning author of Varjak Paw, comes the incredible story of the one boy who can save the galaxy. Lucky thinks he's an ordinary Human boy. But one night, he dreams that the stars are singing and wakes to find an uncontrollable power rising inside him. Now he's on the run, racing through space, searching for answers. In a galaxy at war, where Humans and Aliens are deadly enemies, the only people who can help him are an Alien starship crew and an Alien warrior girl, with neon needles in her hair. But Lucky is not the only one in danger. His destiny and the fate of the universe are connected in the most explosive way.

A young human named Lucky must escape a dangerous planet and rely on aliens he has just met to help him find his estranged father. Narrator James Carcaterra's understated performance allows listeners to imagine Lucky's universe as he and his new companions race across the galaxy. They must try not to attract attention, especially as they enter the war zone of ongoing battle between humans and aliens. Carcaterra excels at voicing the dialogue and Lucky's inner thoughts, and his easygoing narration softens the story's tension, creating a comfortable balance for middle-grade listeners. PHOENIX is a good choice for family enjoyment because the audiobook can be accessed on several levels. It's both a straightforward action-adventure tale and a story of overcoming differences to form deep friendships. C.B.L. © AudioFile 2017, Portland, Maine
