Gr 3-6-Question everything. Explore the frauds. Keep the news real. These are the basic principles of Cyber Sleuths, an online community at the center of this new chapter book series that explores common online pitfalls such as false influencer claims, social media hoaxes, deep-fake videos, fundraising scams, and more. Each book finds the amateur sleuth characters exposing how or why false claims and hoax videos are created. While the tone can be a bit didactic and formulaic, the information laid out is important. Instead of criticizing or ignoring the reality of connected kids, this series sets out to educate them on best practices. Black-and-white illustrations are peppered throughout the short, fast-paced chapters, making this a good choice for kids who prefer short texts with quick resolutions. A glossary, the Cyber Sleuths' code, and a list of resources are appended in each volume. VERDICT The topics covered in this series are very relevant for today's online youth, making this series a great addition for most collections.
