AudioFile Magazine
This Pulitzer Prize winner is set among Native Americans of the Southwest; its young hero strives to find his identity while straddling the worlds of whites and Indians. Narrator Guidall handles the lush, sensuous descriptive passages with consummate poetry, but something about the narrative seems to defeat him. It's difficult to concentrate on this tape and to keep the action and characters clear. Perhaps this has something to do with the sound quality, which mutes the sharp higher notes as if heavy clouds hovered between the mike and the actor. Y.R. (c) AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine
